Abstract: "Protection of the sulfur atom of L-cysteine with 4-bromobenzylbromide in the presence of methanol/ammonia gave 109% yield. Subsequent reaction of the product 4-bromobenzyl cysteine with acetic anhydride in the presence of triethylamine gave 19.5% yield. Product was confirmed by IR and 1H NMR spectra"--[p. 1]
